What you need to know about Alabama’s top automotive star, the Bentley
Bentley’s James Webb, who’s been in the spotlight since the end of the 2016 election cycle, has been making headlines recently after he announced that he’d be leaving the company for the U.S. Army.
Webb has been one of the most outspoken Trump supporters in Alabama, and his endorsement of President Donald Trump has earned him a spot on the state’s top-rated news program.
Webb’s recent comments have garnered praise from the state, but he’s also drawn criticism from some Alabama business owners who see him as an overreach.
The Alabama Business Group, which represents the state of Alabama’s automotive industry, says Webb has “sabotaged” the state and the automotive industry in general by speaking out on social media.
Bentley, Webb’s current employer, has not commented on the issue.
The Alabama Business group has also taken a strong stance against Webb’s campaign to move the company to the U of A, which it sees as a way for Bentley to protect its brand from the political climate.
“Bentley has become the symbol of the Alabama automotive industry and we are committed to working with the Trump administration to address the economic impact of climate change,” said Matt Johnson, the group’s executive director.
“Benten has been a vocal supporter of President Trump throughout the 2016 campaign, and we continue to believe that his continued support of the president and his administration is in the best interests of Bentley and the state.”
A Bentley spokesman did not immediately respond to ABC News’ request for comment.
Bentley was the top-selling vehicle in the state during the first quarter of 2018, according to the company’s most recent financial filing.
Bentley had 1,542 vehicles on the road in the first three months of the year.
While Bentley’s brand has been on the rise over the past several years, it has been beset by controversy.
In 2017, Bentley was sued by a former employee who accused Bentley of sexual harassment and battery.
Bentle was also sued by another former employee in 2016 who accused the company of sexual discrimination.
A former Bentley employee sued Bentley in January 2017 after the company settled a sexual harassment lawsuit in a confidential settlement.
During his first presidential campaign, Trump called Bentley a “fantastic man” and “an absolute star” in the company.
Since his election, Trump has made several trips to Alabama, which has a high number of people of color in the workforce.
In February, Trump visited Alabama with Bentley, who praised Trump’s visit.
Bentley is also on the president’s shortlist for the 2019 Miss America Pageant, according.
