Which is better? TV6 or Twitter?
6.10pm: TV6 has been granted permission to run its live news coverage on Twitter under the new rules.
It will be the only broadcaster to be allowed to operate live coverage of its own news programmes and news reports on the platform.
This follows a directive issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday to all broadcasters to use the social media platform to run their own news coverage.
Sources said TV6 had been given permission to continue to run live coverage on the channel, which will be able to broadcast its news bulletins on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
As per the new guidelines, live coverage must be at least 60 minutes long.
The regulator will not restrict TV6 from broadcasting its news programme on its other channels, such as Bollywood and Bollywood Live, but it will only be allowed on Twitter.
Twitter has been widely criticised for its slow-moving decision to allow TV6 to continue airing its news broadcasts on its platform.
